Leadership Training

Good Afternoon Everyone:

Chad Sawyer has contacted us in regards to doing a Leadership Training at our directors meeting in April 2019.  It would most likely be a full day training on the third day.  Here are a few of the questions he would like feedback on:

• What challenges do you have in providing leadership to your agency and staff?
• What specific unique aspects of tribal culture and law are most relevant to any leadership discussion?
• What specific topics would you be interested in having discussed at any leadership training?

• Succession planning?
• Leading in periods of change?
• Performance assessment/improvement?
• Leading in times of conflict?
• Strategic planning?
• Leading up the organization change of command?
• Selection of new leaders?
• Mentoring new leaders?
• Other?

We will be discussing this on our call with the feds during our November meeting in Palm Springs, CA.  He has ask that we go online and do a survey at the following link:  Please complete survey by November 8th so he will have an idea as to what we might want to discuss.

1. Thank you for this! It is exactly what I need and am looking forward to it. I filled out the survey with quite a bit of detail.

This is my first position as a supervisor. Right now I’m reading “The Introverted Leader- Building On Your Quiet Strength” by Jennifer B. Kahnweiler. It’s been helpful, but I’d also like to hear of any additional books or resources NATCSD members can suggest that have helped them with leadership skills/supervision. Thank you again. I’m looking forward to hearing Mr. Sawyer’s presentation in April.

2. The leadership training will be added on the third day for our spring meeting in Tulsa, Oklahoma on April 11, 2019. The survey deadline has been extended to December 31, 2018. To ensure that OCSE staff have enough time to prepare and tailored this meeting to meet our Tribal needs please take the time and answer the survey questions.
Please see in documents an agenda that was tailored for the State for your reference.
